Being SMART is Fun and efficient

SMART Notebook is by the far the most influential piece of hardware in our educational world today.

A simple SMART lesson results in engaged students and creative teaching. The combination is perfect for any grade level and subject.

Of course people are apprehensive to learn about this technology, but I am positive once exposed to its limitless in the classroom you can't neglect its presence in the classroom.

Besides the hardware and software that is standard with your purchase you can explore thousands of pre-made lessons on the Smart Exchange website. Here you can download lessons by subject, grade level, and file type.

I came across a lesson that I see myself adapting and using for anything. It is titled "Student Self Assessment" and using the interactive white board a series of questions is projected on the screen. For each slide the students use their PE interactive response system. The students respond to questions via this hand held device and the data is then organized for the teacher to view. Obviously this can be used for academic content, but I like that this lesson is used for a teacher to get to know the students better.

After the slides are completed the teacher will know how their work habits and ethics. This can then be used for instruction.

The possibilities are truly endless.

Not all software is created equal...

Theres software and then there is FREE software.

I am talking $Free.99. Websites such as http://download.cnet.com/ allow you to download software with no cost. The best part is that this is not illegal! You can download programs ranging from educational software to classic games.

I chose to download a program called Virtual DJ Software. I admit I orginally donlaoed it for personal use. But once I became familair with the program I see many educational uses. Stucents can recod their own usic and mix with with popular songs, or even mix popualr songs.  The music created can be used in school plays, shows and concerts.

Taking popular culture and embracing it into the classroom breaks down walls. Especially with music. Music is everywhere, yet not relevent in most schools. If i played a song for you that you havent heard in 20 years I bet you would be able to recite the lyrics.

Anways free software is useful and legal. Just make sure you are downloading from a reliable srouce. Most reliable sources will have a review and statistics on how many people have downloaded the sofware.
