Not all software is created equal...

Theres software and then there is FREE software.

I am talking $Free.99. Websites such as http://download.cnet.com/ allow you to download software with no cost. The best part is that this is not illegal! You can download programs ranging from educational software to classic games.

I chose to download a program called Virtual DJ Software. I admit I orginally donlaoed it for personal use. But once I became familair with the program I see many educational uses. Stucents can recod their own usic and mix with with popular songs, or even mix popualr songs.  The music created can be used in school plays, shows and concerts.

Taking popular culture and embracing it into the classroom breaks down walls. Especially with music. Music is everywhere, yet not relevent in most schools. If i played a song for you that you havent heard in 20 years I bet you would be able to recite the lyrics.

Anways free software is useful and legal. Just make sure you are downloading from a reliable srouce. Most reliable sources will have a review and statistics on how many people have downloaded the sofware.

  1. Hi Ilana,

This is a great idea, although Virtual DJ isn't Open Source. They do not release their source code for others to improve/modify. This would be called freeware - the project managers do not allow community tinkering. Still, cool find.
